John Steinbeck IV | John Steinbeck IV was drafted into the army in 1966 and went "quite willingly" to Vietnam. After finishing out his tour of duty as a Pentagon information specialist in Washington, D.C.,
(while simultaneously writing an anti-war memoir, In Touch, about his experiences in Vietnam where he embraced the Buddhist philosophy), he returned to Vietnam and helped found Dispatch News Service, the alternative news agency that uncovered the
Con Son tiger cages and My Lai massacre. In 1970, he received an Emmy Award for his work on the CBS News documentary "The World of Charlie Company." He died in 1991 at age 44.
His posthumous autobiography, The Other Side of Eden: Life with John Steinbeck, which was finished by his wife, Nancy, is available at your local book store or through Amazon.com. For more information, visit www.nancysteinbeck.com.
